Part of The Farm Credit System
AgTexas is a part of the Farm Credit System, a nationwide network of borrower-owned financial institutions. These institutions provide over $180 billion in credit and financially-related services to over a half million borrowers. The System provides credit and services to farmers, ranchers, producers and harvesters of aquatic products, rural home owners, certain farm-related businesses, agricultural and aquatic cooperatives, rural utilities and to certain foreign or domestic entities in connection with international agricultural credit transactions.
The Farm Credit institutions are organized as cooperative businesses, each owned by its borrowers. As stockholders, the borrowers have the right to participate in director elections and other matters affecting operations of the organization. The institution’s board of directors consists of borrowers and at least one outside director, appointed by the board itself. As a cooperative, the lending institution also has the ability to return profits to its stockholders through a patronage program.
The Farm Credit System is proud of its heritage, dating back to its establishment by Congress in 1916, and looks forward to meeting the needs of rural America in the future. |
